Two Maryland residents have been arrested and charged in connection with a string of shoplifting incidents in the Newark area.

Matthew Osborne, 37, and Haley Barton, 25, were taken into custody on July 29 in their hometown of North East, Md., and are awaiting extradition to Delaware.

The theft spree began on June 29 when Osborne and Barton went to the Home Depot in Peoples Plaza. Barton allegedly loaded a shopping cart with $800 worth of power tools, which she then pushed out to a truck being driven by Osborne.

Cashiering for a getaway, the pair fled the scene after customers recorded the incident and alerted store security, prompting Barton to abandon most of the stolen merchandise.
