The life sciences industry in Massachusetts has seen significant growth, with the top firms employing more people than last year. According to recent data, the largest life sciences companies in the region account for nearly 4,500 local employees, an increase of 2.05% from 2025. This uptick includes newcomers like Eli Lilly, which made a strong showing among the top 20.
Takeda leads the list with over 5,000 Massachusetts employees, making it one of the largest life sciences companies in the region. Sanofi and Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. follow closely behind, with 4,834 and 4,566 employees respectively. These companies focus on a range of therapeutic areas, including rare diseases, vaccines, and general medicines.
