Mastercard and Google Pay are teaming up to introduce biometric payment services in India. Using Mastercard's device verification system, customers can authenticate digital transactions using facial recognition or fingerprint features on their smartphones. This means cardholders won't need one-time passwords for purchases.

The feature is set to roll out by the end of the year in India, with a goal of making payments faster and more intuitive. 'By leveraging the biometric capabilities already available on smartphones, we aim to make everyday payments faster and more intuitive,' said Mastercard's senior vice president of customer solutions in South Asia, Ravi Datla.

This move follows other companies offering biometric technologies for payment authentication, such as Fiserv's plan to enable Clover merchant clients to verify customers' payments using their faces and palms. However, adoption of biometric tools varies across cultures, with some countries being more accustomed to them than others.
