Maximizing Value at the CNE: Tips from a 12-Hour Marathon

The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto is in full swing for its final days before wrapping up on September 7. To make the most of a 12-hour visit, it's essential to plan ahead and take advantage of free world-class shows and experiences.

A friend and I started our marathon day at opening time (10 a.m.), when the grounds were virtually empty. We skipped the long ride lines by purchasing the Ride All Day Pass ($75.22), which gave us unlimited rides, including our personal favorite, the Polar Express. PRESTO cardholders can score discounts of up to 31% on this pass.

We refueled with classic fair eats, keeping our food budget straightforward with a corn dog ($10), 18 fresh mini doughnuts ($15), a candy apple ($5), a lemonade ($8), and a cup of Dippin' Dots ($7). Skipping the viral, high-ticket novelty food items saved us a bundle compared to last year.

We took advantage of free featured entertainment, starting with the SuperDogs' new Fairy Tails show in Enercare Centre Hall D. We grabbed prime seats an hour early for the tricks and post-show animal meet-and-greet. The Urban Edge: Ice Skating & Acrobatic Show in the Coca-Cola Coliseum was another highlight, featuring high-flying circus artists and ice skaters led by three-time World Champion Elvis Stojko.

Participating in a Hatha yoga class surrounded by friendly goats at the Farm in the Better Living Centre was an absolute highlight. Experiencing any of these events as standalone tickets outside the fair would cost far more than CNE admission.
