McDonald's Abandons Pumpkin Spice Lattes for Caramel Apple Pie
The pumpkin spice latte's popularity may be waning in the US. McDonald's has announced it will not offer the drink on its fall menu for the first time in a decade, opting instead for a Caramel Apple Pie flavor.
This move suggests that consumers are moving away from pumpkin spice and trying more unique flavors. Datassential found that 99% more coffee establishments sold Apple Pie flavors and 49% more sold Caramel Apple compared to last year, while only 37% more establishments sold pumpkin spice lattes.
Other beverage chains have also started leaning into elaborate drinks with a variety of cold foam, syrup, and protein options. Dunkin Donuts has introduced drinks like the Lemon Drop Suncloud Lemonade and Fluffernutter frozen coffees.
