McDonald's Beverage Platform Shows Signs of Life Amid Stock Slump
McDonald's stock has been underperforming for a year, losing about 12% in value and sitting 21% below its 52-week high. The company's U.S. business growth slowed to 0.8% in the second quarter of 2026 due to management's own execution missteps.
The strongest evidence for a rebound lies in McDonald's new beverage platform, which is selling into quieter hours and showing above-plan performance in markets like the U.S., Canada, Germany, and Australia. This platform includes crafted sodas, refreshers, cold coffee, and energy drinks, with more than half of beverage traffic arriving after lunch.
Germany, where the full range was available, has already seen significant lift to guest counts and restaurant-level cash flow. Management views beverages as a baseline platform for multiple years of growth, with detailed plans to be revealed on September 23 at Investor Day.
