McDonald's CEO Warns Stagnant Traffic and Sticky Inflation Are the New Normal
McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski has warned investors that persistently high inflation and stagnant customer traffic are the new normal for restaurants. Speaking ahead of the company's investor day, Kempczinski said McDonald's no longer views the current inflationary environment as temporary.
The fast-food chain expects industry traffic to remain largely flat for the foreseeable future, while elevated costs for beef, labor, and construction continue to squeeze margins.
Kempczinski emphasized that McDonald's must adapt to this new reality by prioritizing market-share gains over organic growth. The company aims to capture 1.5 percentage points of market share in both chicken and beverages by 2030 under its 'McDonald's > NEXT' strategy.
