McDonald's Customer Hospitalized After Drinking Chlorine-Tainted Soda
A man in Taiwan experienced discomfort after consuming a drink from a McDonald's restaurant that tasted like chlorine.
The incident occurred on September 14 at a McDonald's outlet on Jingguo Second Road in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The customer, who posted about the incident on Threads, described the taste of his Sprite as 'a bit strange' and likened it to 'chlorine from a swimming pool.'
The store manager confirmed that the drink contained traces of chlorine and advised the customer to go to the emergency room (ER) for treatment. The man's symptoms included tongue and stomach discomfort, which persisted even after drinking water.
An investigation revealed that the incident was caused by inadequate cleaning of the beverage machine after routine maintenance. McDonald's has since reviewed its staff's cleaning process and instructed them to strictly follow standard operating procedures to prevent similar incidents.
