McDonald's Customer Traffic Slows Amid Overwhelming Promotions
McDonald's has reported disappointing customer traffic in its second quarter results. The company attributed this decline to too many limited-time promotions and menu confusion, which overwhelmed restaurant staff and led to inefficient operations.
According to Christopher Kempczinski, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer, McDonald's, 'we don't have a strategy problem. We simply didn't execute at the level we needed to in the second quarter.'
Kempczinski explained that staff were tasked with executing multiple promotions simultaneously, including the KPop Demon Hunters meal, changes to the McValue program, and the FIFA World Cup promotion, which made it difficult for customers to navigate the menu.
The company's second-quarter comparable sales in the United States fell 0.8% compared to 2.5% during the same period last year. Despite this decline, McDonald's reported a 5% increase in net income to $2.36 billion and revenues of $7.01 billion.
Kempczinski stated that the company is re-evaluating its promotions and menu calendar for the rest of the year, prioritizing execution over new initiatives.
