McDonald's NEXT Plan Dents Shares Amid Payback Expectations
McDonald's shares fell by 4.81% on September 23 after the company's Investor Day event, where management detailed its NEXT strategy.
The $8.5 billion franchisee partnering support through 2036 includes roughly $5 billion in assistance before 2030. The investment will accelerate restaurant modernization and technology deployment across the system.
CFO Ian Borden said McDonald's expects a five-to-six-year payback on its NEXT investments, while franchisees are expected to achieve a four-year payback after company support. This payback is consistent with previous growth initiatives.
