McDonald's Rebounds on Short-Seller Pressures, But Long-Term Headwinds Persist
McDonald's shares are rebounding on Thursday morning, following a sharp decline of 4.8% on Wednesday. The stock is currently up 1.2% to $241.33 in morning trading, with the advance keeping it above the $236.40 support level that briefly gave way intraday a day earlier.
The rebound comes after McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski told investors at an investor day event that customer traffic growth across key markets will remain flat due to accelerating inflation. Management also unveiled a plan called NEXT, committing roughly $8.5 billion through 2036 to remodel restaurants and implement new technologies.
While the short-term bounce may provide relief for some shareholders, analysts are cautioning that the stock is still down about 22% this year and faces significant headwinds. BTIG Research cut its price target to $295 from $350 on Thursday while keeping a buy rating.
