McDonald's Sees Beverage Expansion as Global Growth Wave
McDonald's is shifting its focus to beverages as a potential growth driver. The company's new beverage platform, launched in May 2026, has shown promising results across the United States, Canada, Germany, and Australia.
The platform offers cold coffee, crafted sodas, refreshers, and energy beverages. McDonald's sees this opportunity as compelling because beverages can create incremental visits during underutilized dayparts, with over half of traffic occurring after lunch. This has led to higher guest checks, which are roughly 50% above the company's full-day average for these beverage transactions.
Germany is an early indication of the broader potential. The market introduced the full lineup of beverages and generated significant incremental contributions to comparable guest counts, sales, and restaurant-level cash flow.
The platform aligns with McDonald's NEXT strategy, focusing on growth beyond traditional burgers and fries. U.S. beverage sales are ahead of plan, with higher guest checks, new daypart occasions, and strong food attachment driving momentum.
