McDonald's Warns of Flat Industry Traffic Amid $8.5 Billion Franchisee Support Plan
McDonald's shares fell as much as 6.5% after the company said industry-wide traffic in key markets would likely remain flat as long as inflation remains elevated.
CEO Chris Kempczinski stated that companies will win by creating more demand and delivering it efficiently, while McDonald's focuses on improving food quality, hospitality, value, and innovation under its 'NEXT' strategy.
The company unveiled an $8.5 billion franchisee support plan over the next decade, including rent relief and capital support for franchisees, but stressed that remodels and upgrades will be costly, with average locations requiring at least $1.2 million in investments.
