Menudo Marks 50 Years of Timeless Music with Reunion Tour
Menudo, one of the most popular Latino boy bands of all time, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a six-day reunion tour this fall. The group was established in Puerto Rico in the late '70s and has undergone significant changes over the years, featuring over 40 performers across five decades. When members turned 16, they were replaced to make way for newer, junior performers.
The reunion lineup includes seven original members: Rene Farrait (1979-1982), Roy Rossello (1983-1986), Raymond Acevedo (1985-1988), Sergio Gonzales (1986-1990), Ralphy Rodriguez (1987), Ruben Gomez (1987-1990), and Robert Avellanet (1988-1991). The tour kicks off on Oct. 10 at Los Angeles' YouTube Theater and will conclude in San Juan, Puerto Rico's Coca-Cola Music Hall on Dec. 12.
According to Acevedo, the reunion has been 'quite an exciting time' and has allowed them to come together again after all these years. The group is rehearsing intensively and has confirmed that there will be motorcycles in the production, referencing their 1981 single 'Súbete A Mi Moto'. When asked about new music, Gonzales stated that they are concentrating on the anniversary but hinted at potential future projects.
The band attributes its enduring popularity to the timeless quality of its music and the visual aspect of their performances. They acknowledge being pioneers in Latin music and are proud to be part of the current international musical landscape. As Acevedo noted, 'We're proud to be pioneers in this whole thing, especially from Puerto Rico, and all our artist friends from Puerto Rico that have been successful.'
