Merck Boosts Asian Operations with $15M Life Science Hub Expansion
German pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA has announced plans to expand its life science manufacturing hub in Bengaluru, India. The investment of €13 million (approximately $15 million) will strengthen production and supply operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Jigani site, which already has capabilities in specialty and fine chemicals, custom synthesis, and catalog product manufacturing, will add 2,900 square meters of new biology and chemistry capacities. The expansion will support the 'Make in India' initiative and reinforce Merck's global supply chain.
'This investment will reinforce our global supply chain and support the 'Make in India' initiative,' said Dhananjay Singh, managing director of Merck India's Life Science business. 'We appreciate the continued collaboration from DPIIT, the Heavy Water Board, the Government of Karnataka, and Invest India as Merck expands Jigani.'
India is emerging as an important hub for life science innovation and manufacturing, with a growing ecosystem of homegrown companies making significant moves in the industry.
