Merck Foundation Provides 956 Scholarships for Heart Care on World Heart Day
Merck Foundation marked World Heart Day 2026 by providing 956 scholarships for healthcare providers from 52 countries. These online programs are in Diabetes, Cardiovascular Preventive Care, Endocrinology, Cardiology, and Obesity & Weight Management.
The First Ladies of Africa and Asia partnered with Merck Foundation to launch a nationwide program focusing on prevention and early detection of hypertension and diabetes. They also created storybooks 'Mark's Pressure' and 'Sugar free Jude' to encourage children and families to adopt healthier lifestyles.
According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of NCD deaths in the African Region, with over 1 million estimated deaths in 2019. Merck Foundation is committed to building sustainable healthcare capacity by empowering local experts who can provide specialized care and contribute to prevention, early detection, and health awareness.
