Merck Sees Breakthroughs in Oncology Despite Broader Market Caution
Merck & Co., (NYSE:MRK), has gained significant regulatory milestones in recent days, despite a broader market caution across healthcare. A health authority in Japan cleared a subcutaneous formulation of its flagship oncology medicine for all indications already authorized there.
This development aims to shorten administration time and offer a more convenient option than standard infusion. Meanwhile, a European committee issued a positive opinion for a combination regimen pairing the medicine with another therapy as a perioperative treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
The company has also agreed to supply its oncology medicine for a partner's trial combining targeted approaches with immunotherapy in certain lung and colorectal cancers. These milestones arrived during September, when broad equity gauges came under pressure and long-dated Treasury yields hovered near multi-decade highs.
