Merck Tests Blockchain Tech on Cocoa Supply Chain
Merck, a global healthcare group with a market value of about $370.9 billion, has partnered with The Hashgraph Group and PwC Germany to pilot a blockchain-based cocoa traceability project.
The initiative, which applies Merck's M-Trust physical authentication technology, aims to support transparency, sustainability reporting, and regulatory compliance requirements in the food and agriculture sector.
This move is significant as it showcases how a large pharmaceuticals player is testing its laboratory-grade authentication tools in a heavily scrutinized food supply chain. The project also aligns with Merck's broader strategy of turning its R&D and acquired capabilities into multiple growth drivers across different regulated industries.
