Merck's Cancer Treatment Application Withdrawn Amid Safety Concerns

Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) and Daiichi Sankyo have withdrawn their U.S. application for ifinatamab deruxtecan, a cancer treatment, due to insufficient evidence for accelerated approval.

The decision was made after FDA discussions, where the partners agreed that the submitted Phase 2 results did not meet the required standards.

However, the companies are continuing development through a randomized Phase 3 trial, which compares I-DXd with physician-selected chemotherapy in patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer.

This ongoing study preserves the opportunity for ifinatamab deruxtecan to show its potential benefits and safety profile, but it will require further evidence to establish its value compared to existing treatments.
