Meta Ousts Amazon from Shopping Agent
Amazon's shopping inventory was blocked by Meta's Muse shopping agent, prompting Mark Zuckerberg to announce retail partners that excluded Amazon. Within days of this development, Meta's shares rose 37.3% over the past month to $766.99.
On September 21, investor Chamath Palihapitiya claimed that Amazon had cut off Meta’s new Muse shopping agent from its inventory. Three days later, Zuckerberg named Walmart, Wayfair, and Sephora as the retailers who would route commerce through Muse.
Zuckerberg also announced a keychain-sized device called Muse Charm and a $1,300 virtual reality headset, with Meta planning to launch over 100 AI models by year-end. The commerce hook sits alongside a hardware push, framing it as a race to beat OpenAI's rumored consumer device to shelves.
