Meta Pushes Into AI Hardware, But Can It Topple Apple's Dominance?
Meta Platforms is pushing into AI hardware with its latest product launches at Meta Connect 2026. The company's goal is to enable seamless usage of its Muse AI agent, which was released on September 8 and has already seen impressive download numbers, exceeding those of ChatGPT in the US and Canada.
Meta's move into AI hardware is a significant shift for the company, which previously attempted to create its own computing platform. However, that effort ultimately failed. The iPhone remains the dominant device through which people interact with AI, with Apple having more than 2.5 billion active devices worldwide, including over half of them being iPhones.
Despite Meta's efforts, it may be a daunting task for the company to topple the iPhone from its position as the leading device for interacting with AI. History suggests that Apple investors shouldn't worry about Meta's moves, and the company is still investing heavily in AI with capital expenditures forecasted between $130 billion and $145 billion in 2026.
