Meta Teams with Shopify for AI-Powered Shopping

Shopify's stock price surged about 6% on Tuesday following the e-commerce company's expanded relationship with Meta. The partnership will allow users of Meta's Muse AI assistant to make purchases through Shopify's platform, using Shop Pay for checkout.

Muse is an AI agent introduced by Meta earlier this month, designed to perform tasks on behalf of users, including product discovery and online shopping. This integration enables AI-powered shopping without requiring customers to leave the assistant's interface.

The move adds Shopify to a growing list of companies exploring how AI assistants may handle commerce activities for consumers. Amazon has taken a different approach by restricting Muse from making purchases on its retail marketplace, stating that outside applications conducting transactions for customers should follow a retailer's decision on participation.
