Meta's AI Agent Muse Surges Market Value by $200 Billion in Debut Day
Meta's new personal AI agent, Muse, made waves in its debut on iOS and Android in two countries. The launch saw Meta's market value surge by $200 billion in a single day, with the company's stock price rising 11.43% to close at $741.25 on Monday.
The comparison to ChatGPT's launch is notable, as Muse was available globally from the start, unlike its rival. However, it's essential to examine whether the initial adoption justifies repricing a company with significant capital expenditures planned for 2026, up to $145 billion.
Meta's daily interactions with Meta AI rose by 60% after the assistant was rebuilt and integrated with Muse Spark. Downloads are a single decision, but repeated daily use is what underwrites an assistant business. The question remains whether Muse can sustain user engagement beyond its initial novelty.
The company's cash flow statement paints a different picture from the market's enthusiasm. Meta's Q2 capital expenditures reached $30.12 billion, up 82% year over year, while free cash flow collapsed to $784 million from $8.55 billion. Operating margin compressed to 31% from 43%.
Meta faces competition in the AI space, with Microsoft and Alphabet pushing their own solutions through Azure and Copilot, and Search and Workspace respectively. However, Meta's structural edge lies in its distribution, with 3.60 billion daily active users across its Family of Apps.
