Meta's Muse AI Agent Shifts CEO Shopping Habits Away From Amazon
Meta's AI agent, Muse, is already influencing shopping habits, according to one CEO. Leif Abraham, cofounder and co-CEO of investing platform Public, told Business Insider that Muse has changed how he shops, particularly for niche products like skincare, vintage wines, and discontinued Levi's jeans. Since its launch, Muse has become a top app, with users trusting it to handle tasks like booking reservations or finding outfits.
Abraham highlighted that Muse's integration with Shopify has led him to buy more directly from brands rather than through Amazon. He shared on X that several of his purchases now go to Shopify merchants, calling it a 'win for Shopify.' Amazon, however, has blocked Muse from making purchases, citing concerns over data security and account scraping.
Despite calling himself an 'Amazon mega user,' Abraham now uses the platform primarily for simple purchases like toilet paper. Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke reshared Abraham's post, noting similar feedback from others. However, not all experiences with Muse have been smooth. Abraham mentioned that some tech-savvy friends are still struggling with tasks like finding tickets for Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' in IMAX 70mm.
Abraham also uses Muse for personal finance management, linking his brokerage account to the agent for daily updates and calorie tracking. While his story is just one example, it raises questions about Amazon's decision to block Muse, especially if AI-powered shopping gains broader popularity.
