Michigan Climate Lawsuit Against Oil Companies Dropped by US Judge

A US judge has dismissed an antitrust lawsuit filed by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel against five major oil companies.

The lawsuit, filed in January, accused BP, Chevron, Exxon, Shell, and the American Petroleum Institute of conspiring to forestall competition in renewable energy and electric vehicles.

US District Judge Jane Beckering rejected the lawsuit, stating that antitrust laws do not protect against the alleged injuries for which Michigan sought a remedy, except for energy overcharges.

The judge said there was 'too great a distance' between the alleged conspiracy and the state's claims of overcharges, dismissing the lawsuit as baseless.
