Michigan regulators have given the green light to DTE Energy's contracts for Google's massive data center in Van Buren Township. The project, dubbed Project Cannoli, will be a 1-gigawatt facility that is expected to go online by December 2027 and reach maximum load by December 2028.

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) unanimously approved the contracts on Thursday, which include provisions such as a minimum monthly billing demand of 80% of the contract capacity and a termination payment that ensures Google will pay for at least 15 years of minimum monthly charges.

Google will cover the full cost of powering its data center, according to DTE spokesperson Ryan Lowry. The project is expected to occupy 282 acres north of I-94 between Haggerty Road and I-275.
