Micron HBM4 Shipment Sparks Earnings Optimism Ahead of Q2 Results
Micron Technology Inc., the Idaho-based company, has begun volume shipment of its new HBM4 memory product for Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips. This announcement comes ahead of Micron's second-quarter earnings results on March 18.
The HBM4 offers faster data speeds, higher capacity, and better power efficiency than its predecessor, the company said. With a pin speed of over 11 Gb/s, it provides more than twice the bandwidth of the previous generation, at over 2.8 TB/s. This is a significant upgrade for Nvidia's chips.
Micron also announced plans to build a second manufacturing facility in Taiwan, which will help boost production of advanced DRAM chips, including high-bandwidth memory used in AI systems. The company expects construction to begin by the end of fiscal 2026 and meaningful shipments from the existing fab starting in fiscal 2028.
