Microsoft 365 Governance Incidents Surge Amid AI Overconfidence
A new report has highlighted a surge in Microsoft 365 governance incidents, with an estimated 77% of global organizations experiencing at least one issue in the past year. The rise in problems is partly attributed to overconfidence in existing AI controls, which have introduced new and unforeseen risks.
The report by Infosecurity Magazine, based on surveys of nearly 1800 IT professionals, revealed that common incidents include former employees retaining access (38%), audit or compliance gaps (35%), and sensitive data reaching unintended recipients (26%).
The rapid adoption of AI tools has exacerbated these risks. Microsoft Copilot deployments have doubled to 56% of organizations, despite 93% believing their governance frameworks are AI-ready.
