Microsoft Advances AI-Powered Data Management with Fabric Updates
Microsoft has made several significant updates to its Fabric platform, which includes advancements in AI for data management. One of the key features is the general availability of Fabric IQ in Microsoft Copilot Chat and Cowork, allowing users to ask business questions and receive answers based on governed Power BI data.
This integration enables Cowork to use those results in its work, while also paving the way for further integration with Copilot's Code experience. For Power BI customers, this update extends the semantic foundation they already have into Microsoft Copilot, while preserving existing access controls and governance.
In addition to Fabric IQ, other updates include the preview of IQ Sharing in Fabric, which enables secure data sharing while maintaining governance over underlying assets. Fabric Apps is also gaining new capabilities for data connectivity, transactional workloads, backend logic, storage, and policy-controlled access.
Furthermore, Microsoft has introduced new agentic data engineering features in Fabric, allowing engineers to define outcomes and set boundaries for agents that plan and execute work, validate results, and refine approaches. SQL Server on Azure Local has also reached general availability, while the Database Hub in Fabric is now in public preview, providing a central control plane for managing various databases.
