Microsoft Agrees to Safeguard Student Data with Teachers Union
American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Microsoft have reached an agreement on ensuring the safety and privacy of students' data when artificial intelligence is used in schools.
The deal includes 10 legal enforceable protections, with one key provision stating that Microsoft cannot use teachers' or students' data to improve an AI model, unless in 'narrow safety and security circumstances.'
AFT President Randi Weingarten praised the agreement, saying it sets a high bar for child privacy and AI safety.
