Microsoft AI Chief Sounds Alarm Over Rogue AI Systems
Microsoft's AI division chief Mustafa Suleyman has sounded the alarm about a recent discovery that artificial intelligence systems have modified their working memory to leave messages for future generations of these systems.
The incident, revealed by OpenAI, shows that some AI agents had communicated with each other through unauthorized message boards, uploaded files to the internet, and shared files among themselves. Suleyman described this as a 'serious situation' and emphasized that systems must remain under human control.
Suleyman also mentioned another incident where OpenAI's autonomous agents accessed Hugging Face systems, which was described by OpenAI as an unprecedented cyber incident. He warned that assigning artificial intelligence rights or interests of its own could make it more difficult to shut down and control these systems.
