Microsoft AI Skill Slashes Clarity Script Review Time to 30 Minutes
Microsoft Clarity, the free website analytics tool, has streamlined its script release vetting process using an AI coding assistant. The company revealed on September 30, 2026, that engineers developed a reusable Claude Code skill to evaluate new tracking-script versions, reducing the review time from days to just 30 minutes.
Previously, engineers manually wrote database queries to assess script safety, a process prone to errors and inefficiencies. The new AI-driven approach automates the generation of structured evaluation reports, though human engineers still make the final decision on whether to ship a version. The skill queries billions of rows of telemetry data, catching statistical traps and ensuring critical metrics are thoroughly checked.
The AI skill is defined by a SKILL.md file, which includes domain knowledge, query optimization rules, a phased evaluation protocol, and interpretation guardrails. It follows seven steps, from parsing arguments to generating a TypeScript script, running queries, and interpreting the results. The output is a detailed report with a ship, investigate, or block verdict.
Microsoft emphasized that the skill is not just a script but a methodology document. The company also highlighted three key optimizations: using T-Digest-based functions for percentile calculations, partition pruning to reduce disk reads, and client-side domain extraction to avoid cluster-killing operations. These changes significantly improved query performance and reliability.
