Microsoft and Nvidia to Unveil Local AI Innovations at October 7 Event
Microsoft is gearing up for a major event on October 7, where it is expected to unveil its latest advancements in local AI technology, powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark. The event, billed as a Windows- and Surface-focused affair, is anticipated to showcase products like the Surface Laptop Ultra and the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box mini PC, both built around Nvidia's cutting-edge hardware.
The Nvidia RTX Spark N1X chip, built on TSMC's 3nm node, combines a 20-core Grace CPU, a Blackwell GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, and up to 128GB of LPDDR5X unified memory. This super-SoC design enables up to 1 petaflop of AI compute power, supporting AI models with up to 120 billion parameters offline, without relying on data centers or internet connections. The hardware also supports 3D rendering, 12K video editing, and high-performance gaming.
Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra will feature a 15-inch mini-LED display, a 30% larger haptic touchpad, and a dual-fan thermal system. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is aimed at developers, optimized for prototyping and running AI models locally. Both devices will run Windows 11, with the developer box preconfigured for AI development.
The event also highlights Microsoft's push for Windows on Arm, with enhancements for Arm-based CPUs and support from anti-cheat providers like Epic’s Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye. This strategic shift marks a new era of local and agentic computing, positioning Windows as a premier platform for AI development and local AI processing.
