The American Federation of Teachers and Microsoft have reached an agreement regarding AI safety and privacy in schools. The deal includes 10 legal enforceable protections, one of which states that Microsoft cannot use teachers' or students' data to improve an AI model, unless under 'narrow safety and security circumstances'.

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten praised the agreement, saying it sets a high bar for child privacy and AI safety. She noted that if Microsoft violates the agreement, the company can be liable for a breach of contract.

The union plans to extend this agreement to every school district across the country. This move comes amid debates about how much time kids are spending online and concerns over AI use in schools.
