Microsoft Axes 268 More Xbox Staffers in Ongoing Restructuring Effort
Microsoft's gaming division is undergoing significant restructuring, including layoffs and studio closures. The Xbox team has been impacted by around 260 employees in July, and today another 268 employees are being let go across various studios and management layers.
The layoffs are part of a larger reorganization effort, with the goal of streamlining the business and cutting costs. According to Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty, the company is eliminating roles in Halo Studios, other first-party studios, and central functions, bringing them roughly three-quarters of the way through previously announced restructuring.
The studio divestitures also include the sale of four Xbox studios, with deals falling through for Ninja Theory. As a result, Microsoft will begin consultation with employees on a proposed closure, while continuing to explore other paths forward.
