Microsoft Axes 300 Jobs in Washington State Amid Global Restructuring
Microsoft has confirmed it will cut approximately 300 jobs in Washington state as part of its global workforce shift. The layoffs are part of a wider effort to eliminate 4,800 roles worldwide, about 2.1 percent of its total workforce.
The affected employees largely fall within Microsoft's Commercial and XBOX organizations, according to comments from Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Amy Coleman in a company blog post. Coleman wrote that the company is changing because 'the world around it is changing'.
Microsoft has been restructuring its teams as part of an ongoing effort to focus on areas where it's investing for the future. The company will provide financial support and resources to help impacted employees, including internal job search assistance.
