Microsoft Axes Internet Explorer by End of 2029
Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser is finally on its last legs and will cease to exist by the end of 2029. Despite being discontinued in 2015, Internet Explorer still lingers through IE Mode, a compatibility feature that allows websites and legacy applications designed for the old browser to function.
IE Mode is based on Google's Chromium engine and uses the Trident engine from Internet Explorer 11 to display websites. However, Microsoft has announced that it will stop supporting IE Mode by the end of 2029, effectively marking the end of Internet Explorer.
The company warns that users and businesses who still depend on IE Mode should begin planning their migration to modern systems as soon as possible. This includes updating or replacing apps and websites that require this technology. Microsoft will offer free support through App Assure to help organizations make the transition.
