Microsoft Axes Internet Explorer Mode by 2029

Microsoft is gradually phasing out Internet Explorer mode in its Edge browser. The company has announced that it will stop supporting IE mode by the end of 2029, giving IT administrators a year's notice to plan their migrations. According to Microsoft, organizations still reliant on IE-only applications should start rebuilding or replacing internal software now.

The move marks the latest step in Microsoft's long-winded retirement of Internet Explorer. The standalone browser was officially retired in June 2022, after 26 years of service. By that point, IE held less than 1% of the browser market.
