Microsoft Axes License-Included AVS Amid Broadcom's Shift to VCF
Microsoft has announced that it will retire its license-included version of Azure VMware Solution (AVS) by October 31, 2026. This means that customers currently using AVS will need to acquire a VCF license from Broadcom and transition to a different arrangement by August 30, 2027.
AVS is one of the last remaining ways for organizations to acquire VMware products outside of a big bundle. The service includes vCenter, vSAN, vSphere, and NSX licenses, but not the Software-Defined Datacenter Manager tool used in Broadcom's Cloud Foundation (VCF) suite.
Broadcom has been moving towards requiring customers to bring their own VCF licenses to any cloudy VMware service, and Microsoft is aligning with this requirement. The company advises customers to start planning a move now and to allow plenty of time to purchase VCF licenses and complete the transition.
