Microsoft Axes Snapdragon 850 Support in Windows 11
Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 version 26H2 will be the last release to support PCs powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 850 processor. The company confirmed this on its lifecycle website, stating that 'Windows 11, version 26H2 is the last version that will support devices with Snapdragon 850 processors.'
The notice applies to Windows 11 Home and Pro, and it means that devices running these versions will not be offered the upcoming feature update, version 27H2. However, users still have roughly two years of security updates left once they install version 26H2.
The Snapdragon 850 was introduced in 2018 as Qualcomm's second-generation chip for Windows on Arm. Microsoft has not given a reason for ending support for the chip, but it is likely due to its age and limited performance compared to newer processors.
