Microsoft-Backed Data Center Slapped with Record-Breaking Pollution Fine

A Microsoft-backed data center in Vineland, New Jersey has been hit with a record-breaking fine of $1.07 million for violating state air pollution laws.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) found that the DataOne Center was operating 62 large natural gas generators without required permits under the state's Air Pollution Control Act, according to Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

This move follows a previous fine of $2.5 million against another data center in Virginia, highlighting increasing enforcement efforts against these facilities.
