Microsoft-Backed Facility Slammed with Record-Breaking $1.07 Million Fine
Microsoft's DataOne Center in Vineland, New Jersey, has been hit with a record-breaking fine for violating state air pollution laws. The facility, which is backed by Microsoft, was inspected on July 29 and found to have 62 large natural gas generators operating without the required permits under the state's Air Pollution Control Act.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection announced that it would levy a $1.07 million fine against DataOne Center, making it the largest fine against a data center in state history. Governor Mikie Sherrill described this move as an 'unprecedented escalation of enforcement' against a data center facility in the state.
