Microsoft Bolsters Sustainability Efforts with New Energy Policy Director Hire

Microsoft has strengthened its commitment to sustainability in the data center industry by hiring Ray Fakhoury III as its new director of global energy and sustainability policy.

Fakhoury joins Microsoft from Amazon Web Services, where he spent almost three years as its manager of energy policy. He previously held senior management roles at Pattern Energy Group and Advanced Energy Economy.

This move highlights Microsoft's continued focus on sustainability initiatives within the data center industry. The company has signed more carbon removal deals than any other in the sector, despite announcing earlier this year that it would 'adjust the pace or volume of our carbon removal procurement' as it refines its approach towards sustainability goals.

In June, Microsoft claimed to have achieved water positivity across its operations five years ahead of its 2030 goal. Fakhoury's appointment is seen as a strategic move by the company to further solidify its position in the data center industry's sustainability efforts.
