Microsoft Boosts Gaming Performance on Intel Panther Lake Processors with Auto Super Resolution
Microsoft has expanded support for Windows Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) to Intel's Panther Lake processors, including models equipped with integrated Arc B390 and B370 graphics. Auto SR uses the processor's Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to upscale games rendered at a lower resolution, increasing performance without requiring developer or driver integration.
In tests using Assassin's Creed Valhalla on an Intel Arc B390 GPU, Microsoft demonstrated a 15% increase in frames per second (FPS) when running the game at 1050p and enabling Auto SR to upscale it to 1600p. Native 1600p at High settings averaged 45 FPS, while running the game at 1050p with Auto SR enabled produced 52 FPS.
The feature also supports upscaling interface elements, but may cause small text and UI details to appear fainter due to its NPU workload sharing system power budget with the CPU and GPU. Microsoft notes that some devices may see a small frame-rate reduction depending on their power profile.
