Microsoft Brings AI-Powered Diagnosis to Windows Performance Tools

Microsoft is revamping its Windows 11 performance tools by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to help developers and engineers diagnose slow PC issues. The company's leadership, including CEO Satya Nadella, has acknowledged that Windows 11 needs significant 'quality work', with most recent updates focusing on user interface and user experience.

To address this, Microsoft is testing AI integration in Windows Performance Analyzer (WPA), a tool used by developers, engineers, and OEM partners to identify performance issues. The company has built a Model Context Protocol (MCP) that enables AI tools like GitHub Copilot to connect with WPA and answer questions about CPU activity, disk usage, and scheduling.

This integration is intended for Windows developers, not regular users, as it requires technical expertise to interpret the results. Microsoft notes that even experienced WPA users can spend significant time correlating data before reaching a conclusion.
