Microsoft Cloud Disruption Hits Hybrid Cloud Customers
Microsoft has issued an alert that it is experiencing degraded network connectivity for its ExpressRoute Gateway, VPN Gateway, and Azure VMware Service. This disruption started on September 30 at 20:30 UTC and affects 18 Azure regions. The cause of the issue remains unknown but Microsoft suspects a correlation with infrastructure operating system servicing activity.
The affected services are critical components of hybrid cloud architecture, connecting on-premises networks to virtual networks in Azure. This incident is likely to impact customers using these services, which are used for secure communication between on-premises infrastructure and Azure.
Microsoft has indicated that it is seeing continued recovery across impacted ExpressRoute gateways but acknowledges that some supporting network management components have not recovered automatically, contributing to management operation failures in affected regions.
