Microsoft Commits $10 Billion to Gulf Region's Cloud and AI Infrastructure
Microsoft is planning to invest over $10 billion in the Gulf region, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait, between now and 2030. The investment will focus on building cloud and AI infrastructure, with a key emphasis on digital resilience.
The move reflects Microsoft's ongoing efforts to expand its operations in the region, which is seen as a strategic hub for economic diversification away from oil and gas. Gulf countries are investing heavily in AI, hoping to attract hyperscalers like Microsoft and Amazon.
However, challenges remain due to access to advanced chips and the uncertainty brought by the Iran war, including attacks on data centers in Bahrain and the UAE. Despite this, Microsoft is continuing with its planned investments, adding to them rather than scaling back.
