Microsoft Commits $17.5 Billion to India's Cloud and AI Infrastructure
Microsoft India President Puneet Chandok emphasized the importance of human-centric AI development during an interview. He stated that the company's approach to AI focuses on ensuring humans remain in control of the technology.
The company has committed USD 17.5 billion in fresh investment for India's cloud and AI infrastructure, taking its total pledge to USD 20.5 billion. This significant investment will support cloud and AI infrastructure, skilling, and ongoing operations.
Chandok noted that AI is transforming jobs by automating routine tasks, pushing workers towards higher-value roles. He emphasized that 'the work is changing, not ending' due to advancements in AI technology.
The launch of Microsoft's fourth India cloud region in Hyderabad highlights the country's growing role as a major AI market, talent hub, and technology builder. India generates 20 per cent of the world's data but has only around three per cent of data-centre capacity, creating what Chandok called the 'largest infrastructure opportunity of the decade'.
