Microsoft Considers Bringing Back 3D Pinball for Windows 11
Microsoft’s Windows boss, Pavan Davuluri, has hinted at the possibility of bringing back the classic 3D Pinball game to Windows 11. During the Inside Windows podcast, Davuluri mentioned that the game is now on the company’s “matrix for things to think about” after a fan request. This doesn’t guarantee its return, but it’s a notable nod to the nostalgia surrounding Windows XP’s built-in games.
The idea of reviving 3D Pinball was brought up by a fan on X (formerly Twitter), and Davuluri, along with Marcus Ash, CVP of Design and Research, discussed it during the podcast. While Davuluri didn’t confirm any development plans, he acknowledged the request, stating that it’s on the list of potential features to consider. The game, which was last included in Windows XP, was dropped due to technical issues during the transition to 64-bit systems.
3D Pinball was a staple for many who grew up with Windows XP, often serving as their first PC game. Its absence in later Windows versions has been a point of nostalgia for longtime users. The podcast also touched on other Windows 11 features, including memory management improvements and the potential for refreshed system sounds, hinting at a push to make the operating system feel more personal again.
The next Windows and Surface event is scheduled for October 7, where more updates on the future of Windows might be revealed. While there’s no indication that 3D Pinball will be announced, the possibility of its return has sparked excitement among fans.
