Microsoft Cracks Down on Age Verification in Windows 11
Microsoft is expanding its age verification system in Windows 11, requiring users to provide personal information to prove their age. This move comes as several US states have passed laws forcing operating systems to implement age checks. California's law will go into effect in 2027, with similar legislation in Colorado and Illinois soon to follow.
Users can choose between two levels of age verification: unverified or verified. Unverified requires only an entered age without proof, while verified involves providing more personal information, such as a government ID or selfie, through the Windows Age API.
This system will not only apply to US users but also those in Australia, Brazil, Singapore, and the UK. Once verified, the status will follow across devices where the user signs in with their Microsoft account.
